چکیده
The detection of low energy neutrinos in a large scintillation detector may provide further important information on astrophysical processes as supernova physics, solar physics and elementary particle physics as well as geophysics. In this contribution, a new project for Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy (LENA) consisting of a 50 kt scintillation detector is presented. ∗Corresponding authors. Probing the Earth’s Interior with the Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy Detector
Recently a large volume liquid scintillation detector for Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy (LENA) has been proposed. With this experiment it will be possible to measure terrestrial antineutrinos originating from decays of the uranium and thorium chains to a very high precision. Moreover it can be shown that LENA opens up the possibility to measure the angular dependence of the geoneutrino rate wit...
متن کاملProton decay in the large liquid scintillator detector LENA: study of the background
Using Geant4 Monte-Carlo simulations the potential of the Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy (LENA) liquid scintillator detector for the investigation of a possible proton decay within the channel p → Kν is discussed. Special emphasis is given to the study of background events.
متن کاملNeutrino Detection With CLEAN
This article describes CLEAN, an approach to the detection of low-energy solar neutrinos and neutrinos released from supernovae. The CLEAN concept is based on the detection of elastic scattering events (neutrino-electron scattering and neutrinonuclear scattering) in liquified noble gases such as liquid helium, liquid neon, and liquid xenon, all of which scintillate brightly in the ultraviolet. ...
متن کاملProbing the Earth’s interior with the LENA detector
A future large-volume liquid scintillator detector such as the proposed 50 kton LENA (Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy) detector would provide a high-statistics measurement of terrestrial antineutrinos originating from β-decays of the uranium and thorium chains. Additionally, the neutron is scattered in the forward direction in the detection reaction ν̄e + p → n + e. Henceforth, we investigate to w...
متن کاملMeasuring directionality in double-beta decay and neutrino interactions with kiloton-scale scintillation detectors
Large liquid-scintillator-based detectors have proven to be exceptionally effective for low energy neutrino measurements due to their good energy resolution and scalability to large volumes. The addition of directional information using Cherenkov light and fast timing would enhance the scientific reach of these detectors, especially for searches for neutrino-less double-beta decay. In this pape...
